Nook

Looking back, I realize that I was in such a great hurry to get our Christmas tree up because it would fill this empty space in our house... and for the same reason, I was in no hurry to take it down! I finally did on Saturday (I know, I know...), and this is what we have going on now:

I am not sure what we are going to do here... some ideas are, 1) get a nice, simple looking desk, maybe a couple plants; 2) a long bench, possibly with a storage-seat; 3) a small "bistro" style table and two chairs. 4) a pinball machine. Just kidding...

Our computer is downstairs, and I am so used to it, I actually like not having it in the great room. Maybe someday if we get a laptop, but for now I don't want a computer staring at me all day long. Therefore I'm afraid a desk would just sit there and not get much actual use (other than a place to pile junk). Any suggestions (either from my ideas or something completely different)? This nook is located halfway between the foyer and our kitchen, in sort of a traffic zone of the great room. It is about 7 feet long and a couple feet deep (3' on the left end, 1' on the right)...

I'm all about the window seat with storage (cabinets or drawers underneath)!

I think a bench with storage would be great! It's always nice to have extra space for coats and mittens and a place to put your shoes one. Maybe you already have a nice mudroom area, but Lucy could always sit there and read books or you could store toys and such in there too. I think you're right that a desk would just collect stuff.

yeah i think we're leaning toward the bench / storage seat... ron wants to make one (and put some of those woodworking tools to use). of all the "options" it seems like the only one that would get used for its actual use...
