Inauguration Day!

Since the kids won't be able to remember this (but hopefully in school they have up-to-date enough books to read about it), I had to take photos of them by the television. They will be able to see that they were in fact watching all of the morning's events...

Regardless of your personal feelings about Obama, I think it's hard to deny the fact that it's been a looong time (if ever?) that so many people were this excited about a new President taking office. Much more eloquent things will be written about the significance of this day than I could ever attempt to write on this blog.

However, I will say that it is pretty amazing how this process is handled. Someone said (something to the effect of) even though our country was established by breaking away from the Crown, we kept that sense of "pomp and circumstance" that is so elegant and powerful to witness. Every inauguration is historic because it is the continuation of these rituals and traditions. I hope everyone was able to watch at least part of today's events, and that whether or not you voted for Barack Obama, you have appreciation for the democratic system that made this day possible.
